Virtual Reality System for Thermite Welding Training in Railway Operations
Client: Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI)
Virtual Reality-Based Simulation System
Thermite Welding Operations Training for Railway Tracks
The purpose of developing this system is to enhance training quality and improve safety in thermite welding operations on railway tracks through the use of Virtual Reality (VR) technology. By providing an immersive and interactive training environment, the system enables technicians and welders to practice the complete thermite welding process without requiring real equipment, allowing them to develop practical skills in a safe and risk-free setting.
The simulator features realistic three-dimensional models of the thermite welding process and all associated equipment. Users can enter the virtual environment, select the desired operation, and complete each stage of the welding procedure step by step, closely replicating real-world working conditions.
The system includes multiple training scenarios, including thermite welding using single-use crucibles, thermite welding using reusable crucibles, long welded rail (LWR) welding, and broken weld repair. Throughout these scenarios, trainees become familiar with the required equipment, operational procedures, and safety requirements while practicing and evaluating their performance in different training conditions.
In addition, the system incorporates a comprehensive performance assessment module that monitors each user's execution of the training procedures. By providing detailed feedback on strengths and areas for improvement, the simulator supports continuous skill development, enhances operational proficiency, and helps ensure greater safety and consistency in railway thermite welding operations.
