The Metaverse Laboratory at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad utilizes Virtual Reality (VR) technology and advanced equipment to provide a safe and effective learning environment without the need for physical training facilities. By leveraging VR headsets and metaverse-based educational content, the laboratory addresses many traditional learning limitations related to location, time, and equipment through cost-effective and low-risk solutions
The first phase of the project was launched in 2019 through a collaboration between the University's Information and Communication Technology Center and Manshour Fanavari Arian, a knowledge-based company based in the Khorasan Science and Technology Park. After eight months of development, the project became fully operational. During this phase, four educational scenarios were designed and developed for the Safety Laboratory, including First Aid, Firefighting, Chemical Safety, and Electrical Shock Response Training
The second phase of the project was carried out between 2022 and 2024 to enhance both hardware and software capabilities. The laboratory was upgraded with third-generation Meta Quest VR headsets, a multi-gigabit wireless network infrastructure, and advanced 11th-generation servers. In addition, a dedicated chat engine was developed and implemented in collaboration with Manshour Fanavari Arian
On November 16, 2025, the Educational Council of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad visited the laboratory and emphasized the significant role of emerging technologies in improving educational quality. The council also highlighted the importance of allocating continuous funding for equipment upgrades and encouraging collaboration among faculties in developing new educational scenarios
The Metaverse Laboratory delivers immersive, near-real-world learning experiences for students across various disciplines, enabling deeper engagement and more effective skill development through virtual environments
